Lahti, Finland, Juha’s hometown, is located in Finland’s lake region.
The Town Hall of Lahti is one of the notable Finnish monuments designed by the architect
Eliel Saarinen in the first decade of this century.
Lahti is home to Sibelius Hall,  a newly constructed wooden concert hall.
Take a peek at this website to see a videocam of different parts of the city.

Finnish Lapland is a unique Northern landscape and makes up nearly 1/3 of the land of
Finland. To learn more about the area, take a look at

Lapland has several national parks, and they are just a few of the many national parks and
wilderness areas  in Finland.  For Parks in Lapland, see
www.luontoon.fi/. For general
information about all the parks, see
www.metsa.fi, which is full of information about Finland’s

a list of all the national parks of Finland, listed by

To learn about the Sámi, who  are an indigenous people of Lapland living in Finland,
Sweden, Norway and Russia, check out
National Minorities of Finland, The Sámi
Take a look at Marimekko, Iittala and Arabia to see examples highly acclaimed Finnish design.

On a light and fun note, we must admit that one of our favorite family destinations in Finland
is
Moominworld (Muumimaailma, in Finnish) in Naantali.  If you love Moomins / Muumit as
much as we do, this is the place for you. Two articles about Moominworld and the creator of
Moomens, Tove Jansson, in
literarytraveler.com and virtual.finland.fi.
Moominworld is right near Turku, a old Finnish city with a terrific castle to visit and many
interesting historical buildings, plus a great open air market.
